Robber killed in mob beating
An alleged robber was killed in mob beating in Rupganj upazila of the district early yesterday.
The name of the dead, aged about 30, could not be known immediately.
Police yesterday morning recovered the body from the bank of Majhina river and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge Forkan Shikdar of Rupganj police station said at around 2:30am, the villagers chased a gang of 12 to 15 robbers while they were preparing to commit a robbery in the area, and managed to catch one of them.
Later, the agitated villagers gave the robber a good beating and stabbed him with sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.
A case was lodged with Rupganj police station in this connection.
Away in Sylhet, robbers looted gold jewelry and other valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh at Khadimpur village in Balaganj upazila Sunday night, reports UNB.
Sources said, a gang numbering 14/15 broke open the house of Israb Ali at 2:30pm.
They looted 10 tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk 85,000 and other valuables keeping the house members hostage at gunpoint.
Israb Ali, 75, and housemaid Rushna Begum, 30, were injured by the robbers as they tried to resist robbery, police said.
