Two youths jailed, another fined

Three youths have been punished for sexually harassing three girls in Jessore and Pabna. A mobile court on Monday jailed two college students in Jessore for stalking a girl student of Abdur Razzak Municipal College in Sadar upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent. Of the convicts, Rakibul Islam is son of Mozahar Ali and an HSC student of Jessore Cantonment Public College while Biplob Hossain is son of Jahanagir Hossain and a student of Barobazar College in Jhenidah. Officer-in-charge Sheikh Emdad Ali of Sadar police station said the two youths came to the Abdur Razzak College premises and sexually harassed a student of the college. Hearing the news, vice-principal of the college Sultan Ahmed informed a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Shailendra Nath which rushed to the spot and sentenced Rakibul to four months and Biplob to two months imprisonment. In Pabna, another mobile court on Tuesday fined a young man Tk 8,000 for sexually harassing a female SSC examinee. The stalker was identified as Ratan Hossain, 25, son of Zakir Hossain at Kushiara village in Bera upazila. Police said Ratan teased the SSC examinee when she was returning home after examination on Monday. On the basis of the complaint, police arrested him on Tuesday morning and produced before the mobile court. Later, the mobile court led by upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) H M Nurul Islam fined him Tk 8,000 which was realised instantly. In Satkhira, a case was filed with Assassuni PS against a college student on Monday on charge of stalking, reports our correspondent. But police failed to arrest alleged stalker, Abdur Rakib, 25, son of Kamrul Islam of village Jamalnagar in Tala upazila. Victim's father Kartik Chandra Mondal of village Tuardanga in the same upazila filed the case alleging that Abdur Rakib used to stalk his daughter Jyotsna Rani, a student of Fashiar Rahman Degree College in Paikgachha upazila on her way to and from the college. The accused recently stopped the girl and sexually harassed her when she was returning home from the college in Jelpatua area on Bardal-Bamandanga Road, according to the complaint. When she raised a hue and cry, local people rushed to rescue her but the stalker managed to flee away.
