<i>Headmaster hits on head of colleague with hammer </i>
Headmaster of a primary school beat up his female colleague with a wooden hammer over a trifle issue on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Matigara village of Sadar upazila in Panchagarh district.
In protest, locals confined the headmaster to his office room for about three hours till police rescued him and took him to the police station.
Police said, before closing hour at about 4:00pm, Hira Bala, an assistant teacher of Matigara Registered Primary School, submitted an application to the headmaster of the school seeking casual leave (CL) for three days.
Headmaster Khademul Islam refused to entertain her application. An altercation took place between the two and a stage, the headmaster injured the teacher by hitting her on the head with a wooden hammer used for ringing school bell.
Within a few minutes, a large number of locals besieged the school to protest the matter.
Chairman of Gorinabari union parishad Shiben Sharma informed police to rescue the headmaster from the agitated mob.
Acting officer-in-charge of Panchagarh police station Habibur Rahaman said, “Hira Bala has filed a case against the headmaster with the police station and he will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday.”
District primary education officer (DPEO) Syeda Mahfuza Akhter said, “I am yet to be informed of the matter. If the victim files a complaint officially, departmental action will be taken.”
