Test-yourself-tool for schoolchildren

Today's students will lead the 21st Century. But, they need to be empowered with stronger tools that will enable them to face global competition by the time they grow. Traditional methods of chalk and talk, although effective, are not enough anymore. Parents are always fraught with worry on the growing amount of time their children spend browsing the internet, but with the launch of Champs21, parents will be encouraging children to spend more and more time on the internet. Launched jointly by The Daily Star and Team Creative, Champs21 is an intelligent web based assessment service for students from Class 3 to 10. Being web based, it provides a unique opportunity to educate the future generation of Bangladesh in a different but effective way for the first time. Working as a switch-on-whenever-you're-ready-teacher, the website allows students to take assessment tests whenever they want to and points out their weaknesses and strengths, thereby adjusting to the students' pace and level. Thus, the students get a guided feedback on their performance and a constructive distraction from social networking and idle browsing. Students can take chapter-based and term-based tests throughout the whole session/year following school curriculum. The website particularly focuses on mathematics and science and is now open for both English and Bangla medium students. Since this database of test results remains available with student login, it can be considered as a great tool of learning throughout the term duration. Parents can now give a sigh of relief as they too can now track how their children are doing academically, without having to physically sit with the child to test him. Every test taken by the students at Champs21.com, the scores are instantly mailed to parents. Parents can login to the website at their convenience and follow-up the progress of their children. A comparative analysis between or amongst the students of same class/school is also available so that parents can know where their child stands among his peers. To promote the website, a nationwide competition has also been launched, which has been called 'Brain Brats'. Registration is free. Any student from class-3 to class-10 of any participating school can take part in the competition. The competition is only for English Medium students. For every question students will get 1 minute time to answer except for Math, where they will get 1 minute 30 seconds. Once they give an incorrect answer or exceed the time limit the test ends. Students may sit for the tests as many times as they want until the 1st round ends on February 28, 2011. At the end of 1st round, top 10 best scorers from respective classes and schools will be selected for the 2nd round. 10 Students from each class of each school will be selected for the 2nd round. If the number of participants is over 50, then top 15 will be selected from the respective classes. In the second round, the list of 1st round winners will be sent to the respective school authorities. A written exam will be held on the respective school premises between March 4 and March 5, 2011, where fellow classmates will compete. Only the champions of each class will move on to represent their schools in the grand finale. If the number of participating students is over 50 in 1st Round, two representatives will be selected. The grand finale will take place on March 12, 2011 at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center in the capital. Every school champion will be tested on a dynamic array of questions and the best of each class across the nation will be awarded with the 'Brain Brat' title along with the recognition for their respective schools. Prizes include trips for two to Kuala Lampur, ASUS laptops, and digital cameras. Champion students & their schools will also get coverage on various media across the country.
