Mayor-elect stabbed in Matiranga
The mayor-elect of Matiranga municipality was stabbed allegedly by Chhatra League (BCL) men in Bazar area of Matiranga upazila town on Sunday night.
The victim, Md Aladdin, 35, is also a member of Khagrachhari district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and son of Abu Yusuf Chowdhury.
Police and family sources said a group of about 6 to 10 BCL activists led by BCL Matiranga upazila unit vice-president Md Palas stabbed Aladdin, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed him to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex. Later, doctors referred him to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
Demanding immediate arrest of attackers, Khagrachhari JCD district unit secretary Md Ibrahim Khalil blamed the BCL men for the attack.
Contacted, Matiranga upazila BCL vice-president Md Palas blamed the internal feud of JCD for the attack.
No case was filed with Matiranga Police Station as of 5:00pm yesterday.
