Ripon may be remanded again
Police yet to arrest any FIR-named accused
Police are likely to seek fresh remand of Abdur Rahim Ripon as they failed to arrest any of the FIR-named accused 10 days into the killing of BCL activist Udayendu Singha Polash.
Kotwali police yesterday produced MC College BCL leader Abdur Rahim Ripon to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on conclusion of a two-day remand.
Ripon was sent to jail hajat in the afternoon. He was remanded in the case for killing BCL activist Udayendu Singha Polash on July 12 afternoon.
Investigation officer of the case Sub Inspector Abdur Rahim told this correspondent yesterday afternoon that Ripon may be remanded again, adding police are yet to arrest any of the FIR named accused in the case.
Police on 16 July arrested murder suspect Abdur Rahim Ripon from inside a locked room at the college hostel.
Following the murder, Sylhet district, city and college units of the BCL were dissolved on July 14 by the central committee while six members of the college unit and 12 of the district and city units were expelled on charge of their complicity with unwanted activities. Ripon is one among the expelled activists.
Police earlier picked up Ayub Ali, a friend of the deceased from the same college hostel about two hours after the killing. After preliminary quizzing, he was sent to the jail hajat through magistrate court on the next day.
BCL activist Udayendu Singha Polash,22, was stabbed to death in the hands of rivals in the Sylhet city's Shaplabag area on July 12 afternoon.
Polash was a student of third year honours, Mathematics in the Sylhet MC College. He hailed from Bhandarigaon of Komolganj upazila in Moulvibazar district.
Bireshwar Chandra Sinha, father of the deceased filed a murder case on July 14 afternoon with Sylhet kotwali police station.
Bireshwar in his case accused 14 students, also BCL activists of the MC College. Of them, the eight named are Fazlur Rahman Jashim, Md Delwar Hossain, Shipon Khan alias Kala Shipon, Shahidul Haque, Russel Ahmed, Gias uddin, Mostafizur Rahman and Sanjay Kumar Chowdhury.
He stated in his complaint that at a stage of altercation on the campus on July 12 Ayub and Delwar locked in a scuffle leading to the attack on his son. Polash borrowed the motorbike of his friend Diamond for taking Auyb to the hostel. Soon after that Polash was attacked near the hostel, he added.
