33 of Pabna Edward College food poisoned

Thirty students and three teachers of Pabna Edward College have been affected with diarrhoea due to food poisoning. The teachers and students of the accounting department fell sick after taking 'biriyani' at the department on Monday evening, college sources said. Associate Professor Dr Alok Shaha said the college authorities bought 'biriyani' from a local hotel and restaurant named 'Pabna Biriyani House' on Monday evening on the occasion of freshers' reception at the accounting department. After the programme, around 80 teachers and the students took the food and 33 of them fell sick on the night, he added. Of the affected students and teachers, 22 were admitted to Pabna General Hospital the same night while the rest yesterday morning. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Dipak Shaha told this correspondent that the teachers and students were affected with diarrhoea due to food poisoning. Principal Md Habibullah Miah said he informed the police who will investigate the matter and take action against the hotelier.
