Pirates abduct 14 fishermen
Pirates of Sunderbans abducted 14 fishermen from 14 boats in Marabaghi area under Sharankhola police station on Sunday evening and demanded Tk 3.5 lakh ransom.
Police quoting fishermen said, pirates numbering 12/14 belonging to 'Rubel Bahini' intercepted the 14 boats as they reached the area on their way back home and looted nets and fishes.
Later, the pirates abducted 14 fishermen each from one boat demanding per head ransom of Tk 25,000. All the fishermen hailed from different villages of Sharankhola upazila.
The pirates also threatened to kill the abducted fishermen if their family members fail to give the money within next three days.
Mihir Kumer, DFO of Sunderban East Range said drive was on to rescue the abducted fishermen.
Earlier in last two weeks pirates attacked over a hundred boats and trawlers, looted valuables worth Tk 30 lakh and abducted 120 fishermen for ransom from the area.
