Jubo League man stabbed to death
A Jubo League activist was stabbed to death in Sonaimuri railway station area of the district on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Sumon, 28, of Vanuai village under Sonaimuri upazila.
Locals said, at around 9:00pm Sunday night, Sumon and Rubel, another activist of Jubo League locked in an altercation over control of drug trade in the area.
At one stage, Rubel stabbed Sumon in his chest and back with a knife leaving the latter seriously injured.
Locals rescued Sumon and took him to Noakhali General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Sonaimuri police recovered the body and sent it to hospital for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge Nazibul Islam of Sonaimuri police station said they have recovered a knife from the spot.
However, Rubel went to hiding after the killing, he said.
Sonaimuri GRP police lodged a case with Laksam police station in this connection.
