Jamaat leader 'advocate' of war crime trial
"The war criminals who killed people indiscriminately and committed crimes against humanity during the Liberation War must face trial. The government has started the process and the trial would be completed if God wishes."
Believe it or not, this is the utterance of Chapainawabganj municipality Mayor Ataur Rahman, who is also a member of the Sura and Karmaparishad (working committee) of Chapainawabganj district unit of Jamaat.
Ataur was addressing a meeting arranged by the newly elected district command of Muktijoddha Sangsad at Shahid Satu Hall in Chapainawabganj town yesterday.
As the freedom fighters were chanting slogans 'Joy Bangla' and 'Joy Bangabandhu', the local Jamaat leader said, "Joy Bangla means long live Bangladesh. Bangabandhu's contribution to the country's independence is extraordinary. Mere slogans are not enough. All should pray to Allah for salvation of his soul. We wish him enter heaven."
"There are war criminals in all parties and after detection they must be brought under trial," he said.
Among others, Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila parishad Chairman Ruhul Amin, Awami League leader Dr Samil Uddin Ahmed Shimul and Executive Magistrate Shahadat Hossain addressed the meeting presided over by newly elected President of Chapainawabganj district command of Muktijoddha Sangsad Golam Rabbani.
