Two youths drown in Sylhet city

Two youths, including a college student, drowned in separate incidents in the city on Friday. Police said a student of Sylhet MC College drowned in a pond of the college on Friday noon while he was taking bath along with his friends. The deceased was identified as Humayun Ahmed, son of Harunur Rashid of Shaplabagh residential area of the city. Police quoting family sources said, Humayun went to play football with his friends at the college field on Friday morning. Later, he went to take bath with his friends in a pond near the College. But Humayun suddenly drowned in the pond. Later, his friends with the help of local people rescued Humayun and took him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead. In another incident, the floating body of a youth, who drowned in a canal on Friday, was recovered on Saturday morning at Kangalichhara in West Vatpara area of the city. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim alias Kalu, 18, a motor mechanic and son of Sohag Mia of Kumarpara area of the city. Family sources said Ibrahim was going to his cousin's house at Vatpara on Friday noon. He fell into the canal while he was crossing a bamboo bridge and met a watery grave. His body was found floating on Saturday morning.
