7 Jamaat men held in Satkhira, two sent to jail in Natore

Seven Jamaat leaders and activists were arrested at their houses in Sadar upazila of Satkhira district on Wednesday night while two arrested activists of the party sent to jail in Natore yesterday. In Satkhira, police raided four villages and and arresteed the Jamaat men. The arrestees are Hasanuzzaman, 32, son of Hafizur Rahman of Baikari village, Israfil Sardar, 45, son of Idris Ali of Chhoygharia village, Safiqul Islam, 45, son of Rais Uddin Biswas and Abdul Kader Dhabak, 40 son of Abdul Gafoor of Kaliani village and Akramuzzaman, 45 son of Abbas Uddin, Sabbir Hossain, 25 and Nayeem Siddique, 20 son of Mahmudul Hasan of Agardari village, reports our correspondent. Police said the arrestees were planning to carry out subversive activities in the district. They were shown arrested in a sedition case and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday. The court rejected their bail prayers and sent them to jail, court sources said. According to a correspondent from Natore, two Jamaat activists, arrested in Kandivita area in the town Wednesday evening, were sent to jail yesterday. Officer-in-Charge of Natore Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said they arrested the Jamaat activists Jainal Abedin and Rubel for their alleged involvement in destructive activities. Police produced the two in a court that rejected their bail prayers and sent them to jail. Earlier on Wednesday, police arrested city Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Atiqul Islam Russell, activists Jamal Uddin, Nurul Islam, Mehedi and Shibir activist Abdullah Al Mamum at Islamia Hospital at Harishpur area in the city. Police said they detained the Jamaat men as they were holding a 'secret' meeting.
