GPA-5 up, pass rate down in Chittagong board
The number of Grade Point Average (GPA)5 achievers increased although pass percentage rate decreased in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations under Chittagong education board.
This year, a total of 1,618 students secured GPA-5 while last year the number was 1,448. Pass percentage rate is 72.65 which marks 3.66 percent decrease.
A total of 42,976 students appeared in the examinations this year. Of them, 31,224 came out successful from 181 colleges under the board.
In 2009, 31,668 students out of 41,498 passed successfully from 175 colleges with pass percentage of 76.31.
In 2006, the pass percentage was 61.45 while in 2007, 2008 and 2009 it was 61.36, 67.96 and 76.31 respectively.
Considering number of GPA-5 achievers, Faujdarhat Cadet College topped the list.
Ninety-four percent examinees secured GPA-5. Fourty-seven students out of 50 achieved GPA-5 marking 100 pass percentage from this college.
Chittagong Public School and College stood second with 143 GPA- achievers. A total of 503 students appeared in the examinations. Of them, 500 passed successfully with 99.40 pass percentage.
Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College stood third with 96.74 pass percentage and 351 GPA-5 achievers. A total of 1,380 students sat in the examinations from this college. Of them, 1335 passed successfully.
Ispahani Public School and College secured fourth position as 94 examinees obtained GPA-5. Here the pass percentage rate is 98.75.
A total of 240 students appeared in the examinations.
One hundred forty five examinees obtained GPA -5 from Government Commerce College obtaining fifth position. Seven hundred fourty two students out of 744 came out successful from this college. Pass percentage rate is 99.73.
However, none of four examinees of Ukhia Girls' School and College in Cox's Bazar district came out successful.
The controller of examinations of the board, Prof Dr Pijush Dutta said, students did well in the metropolitan area. Pass percentage rate falls in the remote areas, he said.
The HSC examinations were held in 88 centres. A total of 42,976 students appeared from 181 educational institutions. Three hundred thirty two students remained absent and 29 were expelled in the examinations. Results of 13 students remained withheld.
