Four remanded in Ctg, protesters demand arrest of Natore culprit
Four youths, arrested on Monday in Chittagong on charge of making a porno CD of a schoolgirl after rape, were placed on a four-day remand yesterday.
The arrestees are Mohiuddin Monir alias Munna, 22, Nirjhar Das Samu, 25, Rana Nandi, 25, and Ruhul Nath, 25.
In Natore, people of sadar upazila yesterday formed a human chain and staged protest rally at Jalalabad Bazar demanding arrest of a youth who raped a schoolgirl and spread nude photos to different areas through mobile phones.
Chittagong Kotwali police produced the four youths in the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Azizul Haque, seeking a seven-day remand for the accused, but the court granted four days' remand, reports our staff correspondent.
Mohiuddin, one of the accused, recorded his physical relation with a 14-year-old girl, also a class nine student of a school in the city, forcibly at Hotel Golden Star of Sadarghat area on March 28.
Later, he along with the other arrestees made 400 copies of the CD at a shop called Video Park at Jalsha Market in the city.
On June 24, they contacted with the girl's father over phone demanding Tk 50 lakh in exchange for returning the CD. Failing to get response from the girl's father, they released the CD in the market on June 26.
Victim's father filed a case with the Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night against three--Mohiuddin, Rashed, and Jasim Uddin--and five other unidentified persons.
Investigation officer of the case Sub Inspector Sudip Das along with Sub Inspector Md Mohsin of the police station raided different areas of the city and arrested the four in a 17-hour drive that ended at 4:00pm on Monday.
Police also seized the mobile phone set used for the video.
People of Natore sadar upazila yesterday formed a human chain and staged a rally at Jalalabad Bazar and later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding arrest of a youth on charges of raping a schoolgirl and spreading naked photos to different areas through mobile phones, according to a correspondent.
Police and locals said Abdul Mannan alias Sumon, son of Chan Miah of Jalalabad Tangailpara village had developed a romantic relationship with a class ten student of Jalalabad High School. Sumon wanted to marry the girl, but his parents refused to give their consent to his proposal.
On November 15 last year, Sumon called the girl to a nearby sugar cane field and raped her. He also captured the nude photos of the girl in mobile phone.
After spreading photos to different areas through mobile phones, victim's family filed a rape case against Sumon on June 27 this year. But the rapist is at large.
