Seventeen local leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat were sued last night on charge of blasting bombs at the house of a local Awami League (AL) leader at village Machhat in Shyamnagar. The accused include Shyamnagar upazila BNP president and secretary. Shyamnagar upazila AL leader Sheikh Aminur Rahman lodged the case accusing them of blasting bombs at his house at about 12-30pm on July 8 in an attempt to kill him. Besides BNP president and general secretary Master Abdul Wahed and Sadekur Rahman, the other accused are Ishwarpur UP chairman Abdul Gafur, Jamaat's Rokons-Mokter Hossain, Ashraf Hossain and Nazrul Islam and 12 other leaders and activists of Shyamnagar upazila BNP and Jamaat. The plaintiff alleged that the accused blasted two bombs while police recovered a bomb lying abandoned near his house. Contacted, Master Abdul Wahed and Sadekur Rahman denied the allegations and termed it a conspiracy to harass them. In Lalmonirhat, a Jamaat activist was held yesterday on charge of attempt to rape a woman at Khatapara village of Aditmari upazila, reports a correspondent. Arrestee Abdul Goni, 48, is son of late Ebtar Ali of the village. Police said, the arrestee is also a fake kobiraj (village doctor). They said, a newly married woman from the neighboring Harati village came to him for treatment yesterday morning. Taking the advantage of being a lone patient, the fake kobiraj tried to rape her at his room. Locals rescued the woman hearing her cry for help, police said. Abdul Goni has no license to conduct kobiraj business, they said. Meanwhile, the wife of the arrestee claimed that her husband is an activist of Lalmonirhat district Jamaat-e-Islami. Police arrested him on false charges as he is a Jamaat man, she alleged.
