2 more cases in Bagerhat, accused held in Khulna

An accused in a war crime case was arrested in Khulna on Tuesday while two cases were filed on the previous day against 17 on change of war crimes in Bagerhat. Police arrested an accused in an war crime case in Khulna on Tuesday night from his house at Chandpur village under Rupsha upazila. Police said arrestee Amjad Mina, 50, who was on the run for weeks, is one of the seven FIR-named accused in the war crime case. The case was filed with Rupsha police station on May 18 this year by advocate Mohammad Ali accusing seven people of killing the complainant's father freedom fighter Aminuddin Ahmed during liberation war in 1971. With this the total number of arrests in war crime cases in Khulna now stand at two. Sources said, so far 160 people have been accused in 18 war crime cases in the district. The other FIR-named accused of war crime case arrested by police is Gaffar Goldar of Balidanga village under Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district. He is one of the nine accused in the case filed with Batiaghata police station on April 1 this year by Abdullah Goldar as complainant. Meanwhile, two more war crime cases were recorded on Monday night with Sharankhola police station in Bagerhat district. According to police, Phulmia Khalifa of Matherparh village under Sharankhola upazila filed the case accusing four people of killing his father Chand Mia Khalifa during liberation war in 1971. The four FIR-named accused are Lutfor Rahman Howlader, Abdur Rob Gazi, Fazlul Huq Khalifa and Mofazzel Hossain, all known collaborators of Pakistan occupation forces. The other war crime case was filed on the same night with the same police station accusing 17 of killing freedom fighter Abdus Salam Khan during the war in 1971. The complainant, who is youngest brother of the slain freedom fighter, stated in his case that the accused shot dead his eldest brother freedom fighter Salam Khan on the bank of Baleshwar river. The 17 FIR-named accused are Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat central committee AKM Yusuf, Metiar Rahman, Abdur Rob Howlader, Nazir Mridha, Ismail Khan, Abdul Huq Akand, Abul Hares Khan, Lutfor Rahman, Moslem Akand, Abdul Latif Panchayet, Joinal Abedin, Hafez Amir Ali, Delwar Hossain, Abdus Sattar Khan, Atahar Howlader, Kader Chowkider and Nuruddin Mridha.
