At least 19 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists were arrested in three districts yesterday. Fifteen others were also injured in an attack by Chhatra League (BCL) workers in another district. In Sherpur, three local leaders of Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir were arrested from Kashba Kathgar area of the district town and Jhenaigati upazila headquarters early yesterday. The arrestees were identified as Jhenaigati upazila Shibir president Sultan Ahmed, 26, and district town Jamaat leaders Alhaj Mostafa Selim, 60, and Abu Bakar Siddique, 50, reports UNB. Acting police superintendent Anisur Rahman said the three leaders were arrested as per a case filed against them under the Speedy Trial Act. In Barisal, police detained eight leaders and activists of city Chhatra Shibir including its general secretary Kazi Saiful Islam yesterday morning. Other detainees are Rakibul Hasan, Mahmud Hasan, Abdur Rahman, Al-Amin, Rafiqul Islam, Saiful Islam and Md Mahmud, reports a correspondent. Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali model police station AFM Anwar Hossain said following of a secret information, police cordoned off a two-storied Shibir district office on Oxford Mission road around 10:30am. Police recovered 'jihadi' books and leaflets and also seized five units of computer from the spot. The law enforcers sealed off the office. Our Correspondent in Rangpur reports: Police in a raid arrested nine Shibir activists from different messes in the town early yesterday. Kotwali police said they raided different messes in Khalifatari and Shapla areas at about 5:00am and arrested them. Police arrested the Shibir men as they were taking preparation to paste posters demanding release of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, secretary general Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojahid and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Saydee. Police also recovered some posters from their possessions. In Jhenidah, Chhatra league activists attacked Jamaat-Shibir men while they were preparing to form human chain at Nimtala busstand under Kaliganj upazila yesterday. Fifteen Jamaat-Shibir activists were injured in the attack. They include Abdullah, Shakwat Hossain, Ariz Uddin, Rajib, Tito, Shohab, Kamrul and Roni, reports our correspondent. Kaliganj police also arrested Tahazzel Hossain, Jamaat president of Dulalamundia village under the upazila. OC Faruk Hossain of Kaliganj police station said they arrested Tahazzel on charge of creating anarchy in the town.
