7 injured as Jubo Dal rivals clash

At least seven people were injured as rival factions of Palashbari upazila Jubo Dal clashed on the eve of BNP called country-wide human chain programme. To make today's agitation programme of BNP a success, a faction of Palashbari upazila Jubo Dal brought out a procession led by its secretary Majedur Rahman Mukul. When the procession reached near Rabbi Hotel another faction led by former secretary Faridul Huq Rubel came face to face with Mukul's group. Activists of Mukul group chased their rivals with lethal weapons. Panicked shop owners pulled their shutters down and the pedestrians ran helter and skelter for safety. During the clash and brickbats seven people were injured. Meanwhile, Upazila BCL and Jubo League activists brought out a counter procession and chased the activists of Jubo Dal. At this, the activists of both the factions of Jubo Dal fled away. Later BCL and other front organisations held a street rally which was presided over by Feroj Kabir Sumon. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Tofazzal Hoassain, president of upazila Awami League, Mofluber Rahman, Azadul Islam and Ali Mostafa Reza. The speakers expressed concern at police inaction and demanded arrest of the troublemakers on street within 12 hours. During the rally around a hundred vehicles remained stranded on both the sides of Rangpur-Bogra highway.
