7 accused out of 34 arrested in Ctg
Seven of the 34 accused in Durgapur upazila Jubo League leader Abdul Karim murder case were arrested in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong district on Monday night, police said.
The arrestees are Md Shahiduddin, Abu Chand, Sohag Mia, Billal Hossain, Al Amin, Abdul Barek and Sumon Mia. They all hail from Chalkpara village under Durgapur upazila of Mymensingh district.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers from Durgapur Police Station went to Saha village in Fatikchhari and arrested the seven with the help of Fatikchhari police at around 9:00pm.
Abdul Karim, a member of the executive committee of Durgapur upazila Jubo League, was killed by a gang of criminals while returning home at Chalkpara from nearby Dawdukun Bazar on June 2 this year.
Karim's brother Abdul Alim filed a murder case with Durgapur Police Station the following day against 34 people including the arrestees.
Police yesterday produced the seven in the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court that cancelled their petitions and sent them to the jail.
