18 War Crime Cases in Khulna
Only one accused out of 160 held
Only one out of 160 FIR-named accused in 18 war crime cases under Khulna district has so far been arrested.
The arrestee is Gaffar Goldar of Baliadanga village in Batiaghata upazila. He is one of the nine accused in the case filed with Batiaghata Police Station on April 1 this year by Abdullah Galdar of the village.
The rest of the accused in the 18 war crime cases are still at large as police are yet to start investigation into the cases.
When asked, most of the investigation officers told this correspondent that they did not get any specific guideline from the higher authorities on how to proceed with investigation.
"It is too difficult for investigation officers to get evidence in support of allegations made against the accused after long 38 years of liberation war," Police Superintendent Tanvirul Haider Chowdhury said.
Of the cases, 11 were recorded with the Batiaghata Police Station, two with Dumuria Police Station, two with Digholia Police Station and the remaining three with Rupsha, Phultala and Dakope police stations.
The officers-in-charge of the police stations recorded the cases as per order of the court as the complainants filed petition cases with the court seeking legal action against the accused who killed freedom fighters in 1971.
