Criminals loot expat's house in Meherpur

A gang of criminals looted cash and ornaments from the house of an expatriate at gunpoint at Harabhanga of Gangni upazila in Meherpur on Saturday night. They also exploded two bombs before fleeing the scene. Expatriate Sanaullah, who returned home from Saudi Arabia on Friday, sustained minor splinter injury in his hands and legs, police said adding he received treatment at Meherpur General Hospital. A group of 10-12 unidentified men stormed into the house around 12:00 midnight, Gangni Police Station Sub-inspector Osman Ali quoted family members as saying. The gang then confined the family members to a room at gunpoint and looted cash worth Tk 2 lakh and jewellery and other valuables worth Tk 1.5 lakh, Osman added. As neighbours rushed to Sanaullah's house hearing the scream of his family members, the gang exploded two bombs and fled the scene leaving Sanaullah injured. Sanaullah filed a case with Gangni police station yesterday morning, Osman Ali said. Meanwhile, criminals exploded two bombs at Naripota under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga around 11:00pm on Saturday. A group of 7-8 unidentified men blasted the bombs at Naripota intersection, near the house of Muhit Hossain, police quoted locals as saying.
