50 injured in districts in clashes, police action
Over 50 people were injured in clashes between pro and anti-hartal activists and police action in different districts during yesterday's countrywide hartal enforced by main opposition BNP.
Law enforcers detained around 150 people on charge of picketing.

Police detained 21 people for picketing in different areas of the city. Motor vehicles remained off the road although rickshaws plied the city streets. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists, however, ran six city service buses from Bahodderhat to Agrabad under police escort between 11:00am to 2:00pm. Delivery to and from Chittagong port could not be made. However, activities inside the port continued with loading and unloading of 14 vessels, said Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Syed Farhad Uddin Ahmed. Operations of all Biman flights to and from Chittagong were normal, said Biman Bangladesh Station Manager Bazlul Kabir Solaimani. At least 20 people, including three policemen, were injured in sporadic incidents between pro-hartal pickets and ruling party men at different upazila headquarters yesterday. In Longudu, seven BNP workers were injured when the ruling party activists attacked their procession, police said. Three policemen were also injured during the incident. Police arrested two pickets from Gourhanga Rail Crossing area where the picketers damaged a rickshaw and threw stones on vehicles. Police also detained one in Chapainawabganj town as pickets ransacked a truck and a three-wheeler at Fire Brigade intersection in the morning. BNP joint secretary Mizanur Rahman Minu led a procession in Shaheb Bazar and Sonadighi areas while district BNP president Nadim Mostafa held a rally at Nawhata in Paba upazila. In the morning five people including a police constable were injured when pro and anti-hartal activists and police got involved in clashes in Sahjahanpur upazila of the district. At least three people were injured when pickets threw brickbats at a Kishoreganj- bound train at Basail level crossing in Narsingdi. Seriously injured Nur Jahan Begum, 50, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Incidents of damaging vehicles by pro-hartal men and arrest by police occurred at different other places including Barisal, Chandpur, Pabna, Rangpur, Sirajganj, Maizdi Bazar in Noakhali, Thakurgaon town, Magura, Cox's Bazar and Gazipur.
