Dinajpur interns call off strike
Interns at Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital (DJMCH) withdrew their indefinite strike nine hours after they enforced it yesterday demanding withdrawal of a case filed against 10 of their colleagues on June 21.
Intern Doctors Association of DJMCH called the strike. The doctors at Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital expressed their solidarity with them, sources said.
The strike was withdrawn at 4:30 pm following a 'fruitful' meeting between police administration and intern doctors at DJMCH complex. Details could not be known immediately.
ASP Dinajpur Sadar Circle Shanjit Kurmar Roy, Dr Shamsul Alam, Director of Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital and leaders of Intern Doctors Association were present at the meeting.
Sources said, Md Faruk Hossain 25, a patient of DJMCH died on June 18 afternoon due to alleged neglect of doctors. As it triggered protest, the intern doctors allegedly beat up three family members of the dead and confined them to a room.
A relative of Faruk later filed a case with Dinajpur police station accusing 25 people including 10 interns at the hospital.
