At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Awami League (AL) and Jamaat-e-Islami during pro and anti-hartal campaigns at Palashbari yesterday evening. Upazila Awami League and its front organisations brought out a procession against the hartal called by BNP on June 27 which paraded main roads of Palashbari upazila town. Jamaat-e-Islami Palashbari unit also brought out a pro-hartal procession at the same time. While crossing a point of Rangpur-Bogra highway, activists of AL and front organisations attacked Jamaat's procession near Kalibari Bazar. Soon the rival party activists locked in a clash using lethal weapons chasing each other. The activists of both the groups exchanged brickbats injuring 10 people including upazila Jamaat Ameer Ruhul Amin. The activists of AL and its front organisations also attacked Jamaat Palashbari upazila office and damaged its furniture, doors and windows forcing the Jamaat men to flee away. As the clash spread, the shops and other business establishments remained shut down. Road communication on Rangpur-Bogra highway also remained disrupted for an hour.
