7 Shibir cadres arrested at RU
Police arrested seven more Shibir cadres at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday in connection with February 9 violence on the campus.
Arrestees Mezbahul Haque, Abdullah Al Mamun, Nazmul Islam, Hossain Ali, Abdul Bari, Mohsin Alam and Habibur Rahman are second year students of Arabic department.
Sources said, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men yesterday blocked the three gates of Shahidullah Arts Building at around 4:00pm, hearing the news that a number of Shibir cadres were appearing in second year final examination of Arabic department.
The university proctorial body along with law enforcers also rushed to the spot and took position at the gates to arrest the Shibir cadres.
At around 4:30pm, the BCL leaders and activists entered the building and caught five Shilbir cadres from the examination hall gate and handed them over to the law enforcers.
BCL men also found two Shibir cadres locked in Language department chairman's office while looking for them in the building.
As the BCL men informed the matter to proctor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Zakaria and police, they rushed to the office and arrested Shibir cadres Mezbahul and Mamun unlocking the room in presence of Dr Kamal Uddin, chairman of the department at around 5:30pm.
Language department chairman Dr Kamal Uddin said he was not aware how the Shibir men entered his office.
