15 unruly students of Hajee Danesh university punished
Authorities of Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) have awarded punishment including expulsion from courses and dormitories for different periods to 15 students for breach of university discipline.
After HSTU Registrar Prof Md Rafiqul Islam Mahmud issued a letter to this effect yesterday afternoon, the HSTU students brought out a procession protesting the punishment.
A meeting of the Board of Residence and Discipline of HSTU held on June 21 with HSTU Vice Chancellor Dr Professor Afzal Hossain in the chair decided to punish the students for flouting discipline, HSTU sources said.
Ten of the students have been punished for engaging in clashes on the campus on May 16 and 17. The incident, following a trifling matter, left five students injured.
An investigation by the university authorities earlier found 10 students guilty of violating the Ordinance of Students Discipline, sources said.
Nine of the ten students, expelled from the university for six months to one year, have also been permanently expelled from the university dormitories and fined Tk 5000 each.
Devdash Mohanta has been expelled from the university for six months, Shoubhik Sarker Apu expelled for one year, Md Zahangir Alam Bappy expelled for one year, Md Sadiquzzaman Suzan expelled for one year, Md Dehloby Reza expelled for one year, Md Nazmul Hasan Adin expelled for one year, Md Rasedul Islam expelled from the university for one year, Md Hasel Khandaker expelled for six months and Md Mahbubuzzaman Ovi has been expelled from the university for five months.
Arun Kanti Roy has been fined Tk 6000.
The HSTU authority also expelled from dormitories and cancelled scholarship for six months as punishment to five students of AIFPE faculty of the university for creating obstruction to holding of Information Festival on the campus on May 29-31, university sources said.
They are -- ATM Sadequr Rahman Level-4, semester-1, Shabbir Ahmed Shimul of Level-4, Semester-2, Azit Kumar Das Level-4, Semester-2, Shamim Ahmed of Level-4, Semester-2, and Md Shihabul Awal of Level-4, Semester-2.
The five students will also be bared from admission into the master's course at the university, HSTU sources said.
A large number of police have been posted on the campus to tackle any untoward incident.
