Strike by Mymensingh interns continues
The indefinite strike enforced by interns at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Sunday night entered into its third day yesterday.
Some 150 interns began indefinite strike following alleged assault on one of their colleagues by three employees of the hospital at Surgery Ward (ward no-7) at 8:00pm on Sunday night.
Narayan Babu, former secretary of Fourth Class Employees' Parishad, and two of his colleagues allegedly beat up an intern after an altercation over treatment of a patient, also relative of Narayan, hospital sources said.
Immediately after the incident, the interns at the hospital began an indefinite strike protesting assault on one of their colleagues and demanding arrest of the persons involved.
They also formed a human chain in the town and held a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club auditorium on Monday to press home their demand.
"We continue work abstention demanding arrest of the fourth class employees who assaulted one of our colleagues, but the authorities concerned are yet to pay heed to our demand," said Dr Safayet Mahmud, president of Intern Doctors' Association MMCH unit.
He said indefinite work abstention by the interns will continue until the demand is met.
