Godown looted, 7 tourists mugged
A gang of 50 to 60 armed criminals looted goods and valuables openly from a godown and damaged a house at Mukterpara in Durgapur upazila at about 8:00 pm on Friday.
Police and locals said, there was a long-standing conflict between Rashid Dhali and Mohammad Ali of Mukterpara over a piece of disputed land. On Friday, Mohammad Ali attacked his rival's godown along with an armed gang. They entered into the godown by breaking open its door and looted iron rod, cement and other valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh.
The gang also attacked a house adjoining the godown. They damaged the house and looted valuables.
Contacted, Abdul Khalaque, sub-inspector of Durgapur police station said they filed a general dairy (GD) in this connection but none came to them for filing any case.
However, Rashid Dhali told this correspondent that he went to the police station for filing case but police refused to take any case.
7 tourists mugged
In Sherpur, muggers took away valuables from seven sightseers after injuring them at Garo Hill in Jhenigati upazila on Friday.
UNB quoting witnesses said, a gang of muggers numbering 20-22 equipped with lethal weapons attacked 12 tourists at about 11:00am while they were enjoying nature at Gajnee vacation centre.
The muggers looted Tk 16,000 in cash, 11 mobile phone sets and four wrist watches from them.
Three of the injured --Abdul Matin, Suman Talukder and Dulal Hossain were rushed to Sadar Hospital from where they were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.
On information, Bangladesh Rifles and police rushed to the spot but they could not arrest anyone as the hoodlums fled the scene.
Earlier, four students of Natore were attacked by the muggers at the same vacation centre on January 29.
