2 land office staff caught while taking bribe
A special team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday caught two staff of land office in Rajbari district while taking bribe, says a ACC press release.
The five-member ACC team caught red-handed assistant land officer Mortuza Ahmed and deputy assistant land officer Pronoy Kumar Bagchi of Nababpur union land office under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari district while taking Tk 9,000 as bribe from a man in connection with a certificate case.
The ACC team trapped the two following lodging of a complaint by the man.
Later, they were handed over to Baliakandi police.
In Lalmonirhat, a group of people yesterday beat up a land official (tahsildar) allegedly for demanding bribe in exchange of leasing a government khas land at Durgapur village of Aditmari upazila in Lalmonirhat, according to a correspondent.
Locals alleged, Durgapur tahsildar Monir Uddin demanded from Mostakin Ali Tk 4,000 promising leasing of one bigha of khas land.
As Mostakin informed the matter to villagers, a group of people led by Awami League leader Aminul Islam rushed to the local land office and beat up Monir.
Mostakin illegally created pressure on him to take lease of the land. On failure, Mostakin instigated people to attack him, he added.
