Two BCL faction leaders stabbed during clash over tender
Two rival BCL leaders were stabbed in a clash over dropping tender in Brahmanbaria while criminals snatched tender boxes and set them afire in Gaibandha on Monday.
Our Correspondent in Brahmanbaria reports: Two BCL leaders of rival factions received serious stab injuries during a clash over LGED tender here.
They are Md Helal Uddin, 35, vice-president of the recently dissolved district BCL committee and Md Mehdi, 38, member of the same committee.
Eyewitness said, when Helal group was talking about the tender with assistant engineer AKM Rashid Ahmed at LGED office here Mehdi group intercepted and locked in clash with the rival group.
During the clash, Helal and Mehdi were stabbed by the activists of rival faction. They were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
Contacted, Shafiqur Rahman, secretary of dissolved district BCL committee said, BCL workers were not involved in the tender scam. He, however, blamed the contractors for it.
Contacted, Musleh Uddin, executive engineer of LGED in Brahmanbaria said he was unaware about the incident.
Brahmanbaria Sadar police station OC Md Hamidul Islam said he met injured Helal and Mehdi in the hospital but none came to file any case in this connection.
In Gaibandha, criminals snatched away tender boxes and set them on fire with all the documents inside on Monday.
Gobindaganj Upazila administration, however, cancelled all the tenders in connection with leasing government ponds and water bodies and filed two separate cases, according to our correspondent.
Gobindaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer earlier called the tender for leasing 51 government ponds and water bodies around the upazila on January 24 and the closing date was February 1. The tender boxes were placed at the offices of Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Assistant Commissioner (Land), and upazila youth development office and Upazila co-operative offices.
Prior to closure of tender boxes, a group of criminals allegedly patronised by a rival group of bidders swooped on the said offices with deadly weapons. They snatched away all the tender boxes and took those to nearby Kuthibari Eidgah ground.
There they damaged the boxes and set fire to the papers and documents.
Admitting the incident, UNO Abdul Wahed said cases were filed and all the tenders cancelled soon after the incident.
