6 get life for twin murder
A Gopalganj court yesterday sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing two villagers in 1990.
The convicts are Rezaul Haque Sharif, Badsha Miah, Thandha Daria, Khalil Miah, Sahid Miah and Zakir Miah.
Besides, Billal Hossain was jailed for three years and Rezaul Sharif for six months. All the convicts hailed from Gopinathpur village under Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
Gopalganj additional district and sessions judge Golam Murshed delivered the verdict yesterday.
Court sources said, the convicts besieged the house of the villagers and shot dead Mohammad Ali and Abul Khair at Gopinathpur on the night of April 15, 1990 due to previous enmity.
The case proceedings were stayed by the High Court at different times.
Of the 41 accused in the case 10 have already died. Of the rest 31 accused, the court acquitted 23 of charges.
