Housewife injured in fire dies
A housewife, injured in a fire incident on January 5, died at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital on Monday night, 20 days after losing her battle for survival.
The deceased was identified as Chhaya Das, 50, wife of Dipu Chowdhury of city's Sobhanighat area.
Family sources said, her sari caught fire while she was cooking in a gas burner at noon on January 5. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a fire at Ajmeri slum of stone workers at Jaflong in Goainghat upazila on Monday burnt down 40 shanties.
Locals said the fire originated from an oven in the kitchen of a shanty at about 5:00pm and soon engulfed adjacent ones.
