39 injured in bus accident on way to Modhu Mela

Thirty-nine people heading for Modhu Mela, a festival marking the 186th birth anniversary of poet Michael Modhusudan Dutta, were injured in a road accident as their bus overturned on the way yesterday. The accident occurred on Keshabpur-Sagardari road at noon injuring 10 people critically. Passenger Shampa said, the recklessly driven vehicle met accident as the driver failed to hold control over the steering wheel near Mojidpur Bridge. Locals rescued the passengers and sent them to upazila health complex for treatment. Meanwhile, the weeklong Modhu Mela, organised by Jessore district administration was continuing at Sagardari with different programmes including open stage opera, recitation of poems, children's rally, discussion on life and works of Madhusudan and cultural function. Traditionally, the fair starts on January 25, the birthday of the famous poet. But this year Modhu Mela opened from January 22 due to SSC examination and other reasons. There are about 250 stalls at the Modhu Mela ground displaying the famous wooden handicraft of Altapole of Keshabpur, mouth-watering Bengali sweets, different types of betel leaves, agricultural tools and many other things. People also enjoy circus show at the Mela ground.
