Housewife murdered in N'ganj, 6 killers jailed in Panchagarh, Nilphamari
A housewife was murdered on Monday in Narayanganj while six people got life in Panchagarh and Nilphamari yesterday and day before for killing two housewives.
A correspondent in Narayanganj reports: Jannatul Ferdousi Jenny, 18, a housewife was strangled allegedly by her in-laws in Naluapara area early Monday.
Jenny's in-laws went into hiding after the incident.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Jenny's father Joynal Abedin said, her daughter was married to Badiuzzaman Badsha, son of Badrul Rahman of Naluapara a year ago. Joynal claimned he gave ten tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 4 lakh to Badsha as dowry at the time of the marriage. But after a few days her in-laws started torturing Jenny physically and mentally for more dowry.
He said, Jenny's in-laws called him over cell phone Monday morning saying Jenny was feeling unwell. But Joynal went there only to find his daughter dead.
Joynal alleged that Jenny's in-laws killed her over dowry dispute.
Narayanganj Sadar model police station OC Akter Hossain said, there were marks of injury on different parts of the body including on the neck.
Our correspondent in Thakurgaon reports: A Panchagarh court on Tuesday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer another 6-month in jail, for killing a housewife on May 14, 2008.
District and Sessions Judge and Judge of the Woman and Children Repression Prevention Special Special Tribunal Court of Panchagarh Abdus Salam delivered the verdict in a crowded court room.
The convicts are Delwar Hossain, Abul Hossain, Lucky Akhter, Saddam Hossain and Tayebul Islam of Kahanhari village under Debigonj upazila of the district.
According to prosecution, Nargis Begum of Shingpara village under Boda upazila in Panchagarh district was married to Delwar Hossain of Kahanhari village under Debiganj upazila about 25 years ago.
But in 2008, Delwar wanted to marry a girl who returned from Kuwait but his wife vehemently opposed it.
After that the relationship between Delwar and Nargis deteriorated fast and Delwar on and often pressed Nargis to give permission for second marriage. At one stage on May 14, Delwar and his relatives strangled Nargis.
On May 17, Nargis's uncle Abul Kashem filed a murder case with Debiganj police station accusing 10/12 people including her husband Delwar Hossain.
Investigation Officer of the case Nazrul Islam submitted charge sheet accusing eight on September 30.
The court acquitted Mokleser Rahman, Mohammad Ali and Abdur Razzak as the allegation could not be proved.
Our correspondent in Nilphamari adds: A court yesterday sentenced one person to life imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000 for killing wife.
According to the prosecution, in brief, Javed Ali, son of late Taher Ali of Kayaniz para village of Saidpur upazila married Golapi Begum, daughter of Ashraful Islam of Chirakuti village of Panchagarh district in 2006.
Javed used to torture his wife on and often for dowry.
On January 30 in 2009, Javed beat her wife to death and hung the dead body from the roof of his house to show as if Golapi had committed suicide.
Ramjan Ali, maternal uncle of the victim filed a case with Saidpur police station accusing Javed of murder.
