15 indigenous people injured in attack
At least 15 indigenous people were injured in an attack by the activists of Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) at Baghaichari upazila headquarters yesterday morning.
The injured are headmaster of Baghaihat High School Shakya Bodhi Chakma, Dipu Chakma, Bijoy Chakma, Sohel Chakma, Doyal Chakma, Sampati Chakma, Lalit Ranjan Chakma, Parimol Chakma, Jyoti Prava Chakma, Dipendu Chakma, Somanta Chakma, Rubel Chakma, Soikat Chakma, Mithun Chakma. Bijoy, Sohel and Doyal. They are undergoing to Baghaichhari Upazila Health Complex, police said.
Locals and police said the PBCP activists were going to Khagrachhari from Baghaichhari upazila headquarters in four buses to attend a party conference.
When they reached Noymile area under Bagaichhari upazila at around 10:00am, they were obstructed by Sajek Nari Somaj (SNS), a body of indigenous women, who blocked Dighinala-Baghaichhgari and Baghaichhari-Sajek roads demanding return of lands of the indigenous people, allegedly grabbed by the settlers.
As the PBCP activists were barred from going to Khagrachhari, they returned to Baghaichhari upzila headquarters and swooped on the indigenous people.
Security personnel went to the spot and dispersed the unruly PBCP activists.
