12 Shibir, Jamaat men remanded
Twelve Shibir and Jamaat men, arrested here on Monday with firearms and explosives, were placed on remand yesterday.
Police arrested 11 Shibir and a Jamaat activists with firearms, ammunition and explosives at a Shibir mess in the city's Mistripara.
Investigation Officer (IO) AKM Manjurul Haque Akand, also the officer-in-charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station, produced the Jamaat-Shibir men in the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Osman Gani yesterday with a prayer for five days' remand for them.
The court granted three days' remand for seven shibir activists---Arif Hossain, 17, Jahir Uddin Babar, 23, Ekramul Haque, 19, Syed Al Amin, 24, Mizanur Rahman, 19, Rafiqul Hossain, 18, and Golam Azam, 16.
The rest four Shibir men--Lutfor Rahman, 16, Mohiuddin, 20, Jahed Muntasir, 17, and Manjur Alam, 20, were placed on a two-day remand. The Jamaat man, identified as Dr Ekramul Haque, was remanded for a day.
Dr Ekramul is also the chairman of Education and Research Centre, a Jamaat-e-Islami backed trust.
Police also recovered four revolvers, three light guns (LGs), 26 bullets, 11 cartridges, bomb-making materials, half a kilogram of gunpowder and some jihadi books from the mess early Monday.
Sub-Inspector Mahbubul Alam of Double Mooring Police Station filed a case with the police station the same day.
