<i>Grisly acid attack on innocent kid</i>
Criminals threw acid on a two-and-a-half-year-old child at Atallahpur village under Pabna Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
The victim is Sultana Khatun, daughter of Amirul Islam, a day labourer of the village. She was admitted to Pabna general Hospital in a critical condition.
Amirul filed a case with Pabna Sadar Police Station yesterday, accusing Md Arif, 18, son of his neighbour Moazzem, and Babul, 17, son of Abdur Rahim of the village, of throwing acid on his daughter.
Amirul alleged that Arif and his friend Babul hurled acid through the window of a room where he, his wife Anwara and their daughter Sultana were asleep at around 10:30pm.
“Neighbour Moazzem cut down the branches of our trees a few days ago. In retaliation, my husband felled a tree of the neighbour, which might be the reason behind the brutal acid attack on my innocent daughter,” Anwara said. She demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Pabna General Hospital Md Tariqul Islam said acid burnt the face of the infant. The victim needs specialised treatment, which is not available in this hospital, he added.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Police Station Md Matiur Rahman said he visited the spot yesterday morning for primary investigation into the incident.
“The accused has been absconding since the incident, but we are raiding different areas to arrest them,”said Sub-Inspector Md Hipjur, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case.
