<i>BDR-BSF friendly volleyball match</i>
A friendly volleyball match between Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) team and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) team was held yesterday afternoon at Banglabandha land port ground under Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh opposite Indian Fulbari border.
Organised by 25 Bangladesh Rifles Battalion (BDR), the event was aimed at cementing cordial relationship between the two border guards.
Hundreds of villagers and invitees enjoyed the match.
A 50-member Indian team led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kishanganj BSF M F Khan came to the venue through Banglabandha Zero Point at about 2:15pm.
Sector Commander of Rangpur BDR Col Md Khairuzzaman and Dinajpur Sector Commander Col Saleh Ahmed received the Indian team offering bunches of flower.
Commanding Officer of 25 Rifles Battalion Lt Col Sirajul Haque and Commanding Officer of 20 Rifles Battalion Col Mahfuz Alam were present.
The match started at about 3:00pm and Bangladesh Rifles team won the match by 3-2 set.
Following the friendly match, a discussion was held ahead of the prize giving ceremony. M F Khan, Col Khairuzzaman and Col Saleh Ahmed spoke while Lt Col Sirajul Haque chaired the talk.
The speakers said events like this friendly match would be helpful for keeping peaceful atmosphere in the border areas.
They said, disputes can be resolved through discussion.
Both sides also expressed their eagerness to arrange friendly match every year.
