Two more bodies recovered
With recovery of two more bodies yesterday, the death toll in Monday's boat capsize in the Dhaleswari river rose to five.
The recovered bodies are of Jibon, 6, son of Anu Debnath of Hablipara village, and Rupali Sarker, 7, daughter of Shumbo Sarker of Daspara village under Austagram upazila.
The bodies were found floating in the river near Sabia Nagar ferry ghat where the boat capsized. Police recovered the bodies and later handed them over to the families.
The engine boat with 50 passengers aboard capsized in the Dhaleaswari river near Sabia ghat under Austagram upazila of Kishoreganj at around 12:30pm on Monday.
Three women drowned, three children went missing while the rest swam ashore. Search for the missing child was going on as of 6:00pm yesterday.
Police said the boat sank while it was anchoring at the ghat. Austragram upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) said the boat passengers were mostly Hindu devotees. They were going to Banglarpara in the upazila by the boat to attend a religious festival.
