Robbers looted houses, fertiliser and chicken laden trucks in several districts in the last few days.
Robbers looted five houses at village Ahmedpur in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna early Monday. They took away cash, goods and valuables worth about Tk 2 lakh, reports our correspondent.
Source said that a gang stormed into the residences of Abdur Rahim Miah, Jabed Ali, Razzak Miah, Abul Kashem and Shahidul Islam.
In Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur on Sunday robbers looted cash and goods worth Tk 8 lakh from a house injuring six people.
BSS quoting police said, an armed gang raided the house of Saudi Arabia expatriate Abul Kalam Azad, 45, at village Kachari Dangi under Dhewkhali union breaking open the collapsible gate. They injured the house owner Abul Kalam Azad by firing two rounds from their shotgun.
The gang also injured house owner's wife Labani Akhter, Laboni's brother Mannan and Mannan's wife Fahima by sharp weapons.
At the time of fleeing the scene the robbers injured two villagers Abu Bakar and Mohsin who came to rescue the inmates of the house.
On Sunday night in Jhenidah robbers took away a truck laden with fertiliser at Kharikhali bus stand on Jhenidah-Jessore highway, according to our correspondent.
Police said, a truck carrying 18 MTs of different types of fertiliser including urea was going to Kushtia from Noapara.
When it reached Kharikhali the robbers intercepted the truck and took driver Azad and helper Palash hostage. They then tied both of them with a tree and looted the fertiliser.
On Monday night, Jhenidah police arrested seven inter-district robbers from Kaliganj and Moheshpur upazilas of the district.
The arrestees are Shajahan Sardar and Amir of Bathangachi village under Moheshpur upazila, Mizanur Rahman of Badurgacha under Kaliganj, Shafi Uddin and Jamshed of Patherghata, Barguna, Atiar Rahman and Monzel of Pabna Charpara. Police recovered a sawn-off rifle, a pistol and 11 bullets of rifle and 500 gram gun powder from their possession.
A correspondent from Gopalganj reports: Police on Saturday arrested five robbers including the gang leader and recovered a truck laden with chickens.
Police arrested gang leader Omar Faruq alias Sunil Chandra Das, 35, and four other robbers from Jessore town.
Gopalganj Sadar police station OC Md Shahidul Islam said, a gang of 14 to 15 robbers on Wednesday night took away a truck with 2200 chickens from a point between Chandradighalia and Gopinathpur on Dhaka-Khulna highway by taking the driver and his assistant hostage at gunpoint.
Police arrested them while they were selling the chickens at Jessore town.
In Sirajganj, a gang of armed robbers stormed into a house at Pangkharua village in Ullapara upazila and looted valuables injuring seven inmates early Sunday, reports UNB.
Locals said the gang numbering 20/25 swooped on the house of Dulal Sarker at about 12:30am. They took the inmates hostage at gunpoint and beat them mercilessly.
Later, they looted valuables, including cash Tk 1.5 lakh, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 5 lakh.
