Bail prayers of 28 Habiganj BNP men rejected

Twenty-eight leaders and activists of Habiganj BNP were sent to jail yesterday in a case for bringing out stick procession in the district town on the night of December 20, 2009, defying restriction imposed by police. They were appeared before Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in the afternoon and sought bail. Chief Judicial Magistrate Shamsul Islam rejected the bail prayers of the BNP men and sent them to jail. As the news spread, Habiganj BNP brought out a procession in the town. Police filed a case against 80 BNP leaders and activists on the night of December 20 for defying ban on procession. They imposed restrictions on procession, apprehending clash between two rival BNP factions. On December 23, police pressed charges against 33 BNP leaders and activists, including District BNP General Secretary Mizanur Rahman and District Jubo Dal General Secretary Misbahul Bari Liton. Two of the 33 accused--Habiganj town JCD President Mainuddin Shahin and former district Jubo Dal organising Secretary Azizur Rahman Kajol--.were arrested on December 21. They are already in jail while the rest three has been absconding since filing of the case.
