21 shops gutted in Netrakona, Noakhali

Fire in Netrakona and Noakhali on Friday and Saturday gutted at least 21 shops. Fifteen shops were gutted at Kalmakanda upazila in Netrakona district when a fire broke out in Kalmakanda Bazar area on Saturday midnight, according to our correspondent. Police and locals said, the fire originated from electric short circuit at a shop and engulfed the adjacent shops. Firefighters rushed to spot to bring the fire under control. The loss was estimated at Tk 20 lakh. BSS adds: Six shops were gutted in a fire at Bangla Bazaar in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali in the early hours of Friday. Police said, the fire originated from a grocery shop at 1:00 am soon engulfed five other shops in the market. Being informed, firefighting units from Chaumuhani reached the spot at about 2:00am, but the shops were burnt by that time. Police said the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit.
