Mother of two raped allegedly by BCL leader, accomplices

Maid's body recovered, parents say murder

A housewife was gangraped allegedly by a Chhatra League (BCL) leader and his accomplices at Raninagar village under Solonga police station in Ullapra upazila on Thursday night. The victim is mother of two children and hailed from Raipur in Sirajganj town. Police said, a group led by Borohor union Chhatra League secretary and another activist picked up the woman from Hatikumrul area at around 11:30 pm while she was returning home from her relative's house in Gaibandha. The criminals took her to a house at Raninagor village and gangraped her. Hearing her screaming, locals rushed to the spot and caught red-handed BCL leader Babu while his other accomplices managed to flee. But Babu later got released with the help of some headmen who assured the villagers of taking the culprits into task. A case was lodged with Solonga police station in this connection. Contacted, OC of the police station said, he was preparing to send the woman to hospital yesterday for medical test and treatment. Our Correspondent in Dinajpur reports: Police yesterday recovered body of a young housemaid from Kosba village under Dinajpur town. Victim Nilu Akhter, 12, was daughter of Md Abdul Latif of Nun-Sahar Chowdhurypara under Dinajpur Sadar upazila. Parents of the victim said their daughter had been working at the house of Mozzammel Hossain Ujjal at Koshba for the last three months. They said Nilu was murdered for unknown reasons. However, Mozammel Hossain claimed that the girl committed suicide on Friday night by hanging herself from a window grill. Dinajpur police declined to make comments immediately over the issue. They were waiting for autopsy report. A UD case was filed.
