Indefinite bus strike in Nilphamari
Buses went off the streets as an indefinite strike began in the district yesterday.
Plying of buses in all 22 routes came to a halt causing immense sufferings to the passengers.
President of the district bus owners' association Shahjahan Chowdhury alleged that the Dhaka bound coaches from the district, violating the decision of the association, pick up and drop passengers on their way. As a result, the local buses in 22 routes have been facing passenger crisis and incurring heavy losses daily. “So we had no way but to call an indefinite strike”, he added.
On the other hand, the long route bus owners, in a written complaint to the deputy commissioner (DC) yesterday said, staffs of the district bus owners association have been demanding huge amount of illegal toll from them, for allowing them to ply long route destinations like Dhaka,Chittagong, Comilla, Feni and others.
