Students of Mymensingh Nursing College yesterday boycotted classes and brought out a procession on the campus to press their six-point demand. Later, they formed a human chain in front of Mymensingh Press Club and held a rally at the venue. Some 100 students of B.Sc nursing first and second year joined the programme. The students earlier observed a week-long agitation programme, including boycott of classes, from January 7 to 13. Their demands include permission for college student's union, hostel facility for male students, upgrading the standard of nursing education and giving clear conception about B.Sc nursing curriculum to the students. The students told the rally that standard of nursing education should be upgraded keeping in conformity with development of medical science. They alleged that most important practical classes are not held regularly. In other nursing colleges of the country, practical classes are held on regular basis, they said. They stressed the need for practical classes on the subjects like physiology, anatomy, micro-biology, pharmacology, health assessment and community health. They also gave a 24-hour ultimatum to meet their demands. Otherwise, they threatened to go for hunger strike from January 17. Contacted, the college Principal said the demands of the students are justified, but we need time to get approval of the higher authorities. She also claimed that they have met some other demands of the students through a discussion in the afternoon.
