6 sued on charge of killing FFs in '71 in Bagerhat

Six people were sued on Tuesday on charge of killing three freedom fighters here during the War of Liberation in 1971. Surjaban Bibi, of Sutalri village in Morelganj upazila, filed the case with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court. Judge Yarab Hossain took the case into the cognizance and asked the officer-in-charge of Morelganj police station to record it as 'ejhar'. The accused are - Waliur Rahman, 58, Abdus Sattar Khan, 70, M Motaleb Hossain, 60, Habibur Rahman, 65, Nazir Uddin, 65 and Nur Islam Sheikh, 62, of the same village. In her complaint, Surjaban Bibi alleged that the aforesaid 'razakars' (collaborators of Pakistan occupation forces) had picked up her uncle Tasim Uddin and killed him in July, 1971. She said after three days of independence in 1971, the accused swooped on the house of Tasim and beat the house inmates mercilessly. They then picked up Saiz Uddin and Siraj Uddin, young sons of Tasim Uddin and took them to the adjacent Tetulbaria bazaar and slaughtered the two. With this, 36 cases have so far been filed against 463 suspected 'razakars' in the district on charge of killing, looting and arson during the liberation war.
