Sirajganj Swartho Rakkha Sangram Committee and Bangladesh Samajtrantrik Dal (BSD) jointly brought out a procession and formed a human chain in the town yesterday demanding renovation of the Sirajganj town protection embankment during the current dry season. Hundreds of people including teachers, lawyers, journalists, businessmen, NGO workers and cultural activists took part in the demonstration. The processionists marched the main streets and formed a human chain in front the Weekly Jibon Barta office on S S Road. It was followed by a rally there with Nabokumar Karmaker, Coordinator of Sirajganj Swartho Rakhsma Sangram Committee in the chair. The speakers at the rally said, this dry season is high time for repair and renovation of the Sirajganj town protection embankment which collapsed twice in last year's rainy season. In case of any dilly-dally, it will not be possible at all to save the town from the onslaught of flood and erosion by the Jamuna in the upcoming rainy season, they observed. They also warned that Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge might be at risk if the town protection embankment is not repaired on time.
