Mob gouge out eyes of pirate gang leader
An angry mob gouged out both the eyes of a pirate gang leader and gave him a good beating at Khuriakhali village adjacent to the Sundarbans in Sharankhola upazila of the district yesterday morning.
On information, Sharankhola police and forest workers rescued seriously injured Ali Jamaddar, 30, ringleader of infamous "Ali Bahini", from the hands of villagers and admitted to Sharankhola Health Complex in a critical condition.
People also rescued tailor Sanjay Halder who was taken hostage by the gang leader some days back to realise ransom.
Earlier on Thursday night, the forest guards had a gunfight with the gang of Ali Jamaddar in Terabeka area under Sharankhola range.
Mihir Kumar Dey, divisional forest officer of Sundarbans east zone, said they started the joint drive to nab the pirates.
Police said Ali Jamaddar, son of Shahjahan Jamaddar of Khuriakhali village, was wanted in a number of murder, robbery and abduction cases.
