Seven firearms seized in Ctg, Cox's Bazar

Members of Rapid Action Battalion in separate drives recovered seven firearms and ammunition from Anwara upazila in Chittagong and Moheshkhali in Cox's Bazar on Saturday night and yesterday. A team of Rab-7, Chittagong carried out a drive beside a pond at village Syed Kuchaiya under Anwara upazila in the district around 12:15am on information that some criminals gathered there to accomplish offences. Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals escaped the scene immediately leaving arms and ammunition there. Later, the Rab personnel recovered a SBBL gun, a 303 rifle, a local single-barrel gun, a light gun, a magazine and three bullet of 303 rifle and three cartridges of SBBL gun searching the area. Meanwhile, acting on a tip off, another team of Rab-7 raided the Janata Bazar area under Moheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar around 8.30pm on Saturday. Rab-7 staff officer Sajjad Hossain said they recovered a double-barrel gun, a single-barrel gun, a local gun, three bullet of SMG and three magazines from the spot which the criminals left while escaping. However, none could be arrested in these connections. Meanwhile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday recovered arms and ammunition from the house of a former union parishad chairman at Chakpara under Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj district, according to our correspondent. Acting on a tip off, a Rab team raided the house of ex- chairman of Chakpara union parishad (UP) Omar Ali at about 1:00 pm and recovered two foreign made pistols, eight bullets and two magazines hidden under the mattress of his bed. However, none was arrested in this connection. Later, Rab handed over the seized arms and ammunition to Sadar police.
