Robber killed as UP chairman fires on gang in Narsingdi
An unidentified robber was killed early yesterday when a union parishad (UP) chairman fired bullets from his licensed gun during a robbery at his house at Nuralpur village in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi.
Besides, robbers also looted valuables from six houses in Bagerhat and Chandpur in the early hours yesterday.
In Narsingdi, a gang of 30 masked robbers looted the licensed gun of Puranapur UP Chairman Sadekur Rahman, 30 tolas of gold ornaments and $2,000 from his house around 1:00am.
Local people said sensing danger Sadekur opened fire on the robbers from his gun, killing an unknown robber aged about 25 on the spot.
At one stage, the masked robbers entered the house of the chairman and seriously injured him, his brother Emran and sister-in-law Ruma by hitting with sharp weapons. The robbers then looted his licensed gun and other valuables.
Responding to their screams, people from nearby areas came to rescue the family members of the chairman. But the gang managed to flee.
About 20 minutes after the incident, the body of the robber was found.
Seriously injured Sadekur Rahman and his brother Emran were admitted to Apollo Hospital in Dhaka.
In Bagerhat, a gang of dacoits robbed the houses of Tariqul Islam in Baburbari area beside Khulna-Mongla highway under Rampal upazila and Sheikh Julhas near Belai Bridge around 3:00am.
The robbers looted goods worth over Tk 1 lakh including a cow, cash money, gold ornaments and mobile sets.
In Chandpur, robbers looted four houses at Hamankordi village under Moishadi union of Sadar upazila at about 1:30am yesterday.
Chandpur Sadar Thana Sub-inspector (SI) Humayun Kabir said a gang of 20 to 25 masked dacoits attacked the houses of four brothers Moqbul Hossain Topadar, Hafez Md Zakir Hossain Topadar, Belayet Hossain Topadar and Nasir Hossain Topadar. The robbers entered the houses by cutting the grills.
The robbers took the inmates of the houses hostage at gunpoint and looted 100 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 10 lakh.
